The name, Mt Warning, was given by Captain Cook in May, 1770 during his trip up
the east coast of Australia.
Mount Warning National Park is 2455 hectares in size.
It is
located in the Tweed Valley 12 kilometres south-west of Murwillumbah off the
Kyogle Road.
Approximately 1 hour easy drive from The Run.
Walks are available from the base of Mt. Warning
to the top.
The track is a steep 9
kilometres return trip, with a challenging rock scramble at the end.
An easy alternative to climbing the Mount Warning is to drive (dirt road) through to The Pinnacle Lookout on the edge of the caldera in the Border Ranges. The view (see image gallery) is spectacular.
Basalt and rhyolite lava flows from the volcano have influenced the vegetation communities in
the area.
Warm temperate rainforest is found throughout the park on soil with a rhyolitic base while sub tropical rainforest
is supported by nutrient rich basalt soils.
These are the soils which also characterise The Run.
